Caspian Basin

The Caspian Basin is the westernmost region of Kazakhstan, spread across the Caspian lowlands and up to its shores. Kazakhstan's major port cities are here, as well as some Soviet-style beach resorts. The region is comprised of the Atyrau, Mangystau, and West Kazakhstan provinces. If you are wandering outside of the three big cities, Aktau, Atyrau, and Oral, you are either an oil man, or you're exploring uncharted territory!
